ETK and TIS

Thanks to everyone who made the following software available for our community.

Help for ISO-files

ISO-files (or images) are basically a copy of a CD or DVD made into a single file. A CD-emulator package can "mount" these files so that they act as regular CD-ROM discs for installation or use.

Mac-users can burn these using their Disc Utility which comes with Mac OS X. Using an emulator like Parallels Desktop, VMware Fusion or Suns free emulator you can install this software on a Macintosh as well. Note that ETK and TIS are usually made to run under Windows.

You can also use other software like 7-zip to open the ISO-file and browse, extract and use files in the archive. Of course you can also burn these ISO-files to a CD- or DVD-disc. Remember that 74min CD's only store 700MB of ISO-image, and 80min CD's can store up to 750MB of ISO-image. DVD's can store up to 4500MB and more depending on format and technology.

I recommend Daemon Tools for Windows which allows you to use ISO-images without burning them to a disc. This is the method I use all the time. After Daemon Tools is installed and your computer rebooted, a red "lightning" icon will appear in your icon tray (right bottom corner). Click on it to enable number of drives and to "mount" or "eject" images.

For burning I've tried Nero with good results.

Installation ETK & TIS

The procedure isn't very hard.

I recommend installing the ETK's SysAdm utility first. Make sure you have enough space on C:\ where it default installs to. You'll need 600+MB pr. utility (ETK, TIS etc).

After the SysAdm utility is installed, start it and select to install the ETK database. Afterwords you can the proceed to install the TIS database from the same SysAdm utility.

When installations are done, exit the SysAdm utility and start the ETK or TIS from your new desktop icons.
